Mass Spectrometry - Online Sample Submission Form

To submit samples for mass spectrometry analysis, please fill out our online Submission Form. For first time users be sure to include your billing information. For School of Pharmacy (SoP) users this includes the name of the principal investigator (professor) and grant number. For University of Wisconsin (UW) users who are affiliated with areas outside the SoP, we also need your department name and the departmental contact (administrative assistant). All non-UW clients should provide an address and the name of the contact person handling billing.

The following information will be necessary in order to process your sample:

  1. The molecular formula, the structure (in ChemDraw, ChemSketch or .mol file formats), and the mass of your compound of interest.
  2. Additional helpful information about the amount of sample you are submitting, its solubility and safety considerations should be included.
  3. If you are requesting LCMS analysis please include details about the current LC method you are using, a PDF of a representative chromatogram would be most helpful.
  4. After you have filled in the form click "submit" and you will receive a copy of the request form via e-mail as confirmation of your submission. Samples can then be brought to the AIC and left with Gary or Cameron. Please follow our Sample Preparation Guidelines so that we have the best chance to obtain satisfactory results.
  5. LCMS users are expected to provide their own column for the analysis unless they have made other arrangements. We strongly recommend smaller diameter (2.1 mm) columns for increased sensitivity, lower solvent consumption and lower sample consumption. Columns with smaller particle sizes will provide better resolution.
  6. As always, if you are submitting samples for Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) analysis on the ProMALDI you may spot your samples between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
  7. All samples submitted before 2:00 PM can usually be analyzed and the results returned the next day. Some quantitation projects or complex analyses may take longer.
