Practice Sites


The Community Pharmacy Residency program features a variety of innovative community pharmacy practice sites. For the 2008-2009 Program year, resident positions are available at four practice sites. The locations of these sites are indicated on the Current Program Sites map, and detailed descriptions of these sites can be found on this page. The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy is the administrative hub of the Program.

  1. Neenah Practice SiteMorton Pharmacy, Neenah

    Morton Pharmacy is a family owned independent pharmacy chain with 12 locations in Appleton, Greenville, Neenah-Menasha, Oshkosh, and Winneconne. Eight community and three clinic locations, as well as a long-term care pharmacy, all combine to offer a variety of practice opportunities. Patient care services offered include blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and osteoporosis screenings, clozapine management, immunizations, and compounding. The professional staff includes 27 pharmacists, a nurse, and 44 technicians. Corporate management consists of a pharmacist, a CPA, an MBA, and an IT expert.

    The Two Rivers Medicine Shoppe Pharmacies consist of three integrated practice sites: a clinic-based pharmacy integrating pharmacy patient care into an 18-physician family practice clinic, a community-based pharmacy and disease management center, and an office-based pharmacy specializing in medication therapy management, compounding, and collaborative practice with in independent physician.  The pharmacies have been recognized on a state and national level for their innovative practice characteristics: the use of technology to enhance patient instruction and care documentation is unique, the facility design/workflow has served as prototypes for the profession, and reimbursement systems for pharmacy patient care have been developed to sustain this practice model.  Four pharmacists and 12 pharmacy technicians provide staffing in these integrate sites.  Two Rivers Medicine Shoppe Pharmacies have been involved in resident training for over seven years.



  3. Mayville Practice Site (Marshland Pharmacies)Marshland Pharmacies, Horicon and Mayville

    Marshland Pharmacies, Inc. consists of two community pharmacies that have been designed to optimize the delivery of patient care services.  Those services offered include blood pressure, blood glucose, periodic osteoporosis and cholesterol screening, specialty compounding, immunizations, and smoking cessation.  Management provides opportunities for extensive experience in a variety of disease states, including asthma, diabetes, hypertension, and women’s health.  The professional staff includes six pharmacists with varying practice experiences, including a former community pharmacy resident.  Prior to becoming one of the founding practice sites for the UWCPRP, Marshland Pharmacies trained five residents since 2000.


  4. Group Health Cooperative Pharmacy, Madison

    Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin is a member-sponsored health care cooperative that includes four outpatient pharmacies based in primary care clinics in and around Madison, WI. Professional staff includes 20+ pharmacists. The pharmacies are clinical rotation sites for the School of Pharmacy and have recently expanded to include a residency position. The culture is collaborative. The organization has used Electronic Medical Records for over 5 years, and employs automation technology in several pharmacies. Because the cooperative includes a nationally recognized health plan, there are opportunities for experience in population health and pharmacy benefits.
