Upon registration, you will need to select AT LEAST FIVE of the breakout sessions listed below, and rank them, with a ranking of 1 being your first choice. Please rank the sessions for both the prospective student and guest.
Be sure to read the descriptions carefully before making your choices! Every attempt will be made to assign you and your guest to your top preferences, but because of space limitations, this may not be possible in all cases. The informational packet you receive upon your arrival and registration on March 29, 2008 will identify the afternoon sessions to which you have been assigned.
Admission to the UW-Madison
For students who are considering completing their pre-pharmacy course work at the UW-Madison, a representative of the UW-Madison Undergraduate Admissions Office will be on hand to explain the UW-Madison application process, the criteria for admission as a freshman, dates to remember, and other important information.
An Overview of Financial Aid
A counselor from the UW Office of Student Financial Services will explain financial aid availability and criteria for eligibility, and the application and notification process as it relates to UW-Madison applicants.
An Overview of UW-Madison Residence Hall Life
Students who have applied to and been accepted by the UW-Madison, or who are considering applying to the UW-Madison, will be interested in this description of residence hall options, the residence hall assignment process, food service, computer and tutoring services, and safety issues, presented by a member of the Residence Life staff.

Dispensing Laboratory Demonstration
Visit the contemporary pharmacy practice laboratory where pharmacy students engage in simulated pharmacy practice experiences. Teaching staff will demonstrate compounding of customized drug products, preparation of injections and intravenous admixtures, and use of the computer in modern dispensing activities.
Pharmacist/Patient Interaction: A Demonstration
One of the primary responsibilities of pharmacists is to assist patients in making the best use of their medications. Counseling with patients about how to use and what to expect from their medications is an important component of this function. In this session, you will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of pharmacist communication skills as you observe pharmacy students in a role-playing demonstration of a patient-pharmacist consultation.
Pharmacist Salaries and the Job Market
Salary and market trends and projections in Wisconsin and around the country will be discussed.
Pharmacy Student Perspectives
How difficult are the courses in the School of Pharmacy? How much studying is required? Is it possible to work while enrolled in pharmacy school? A panel of current Doctor of Pharmacy students will be on hand to answer these and other questions, and provide their own perspectives on life in the School of Pharmacy.
Pre-Pharmacy Preparation at Universities Other than UW-Madison
Considering attending a university other than the UW-Madison to complete your pre-pharmacy courses? The School of Pharmacy's pre-pharmacy advisor will offer suggestions on how to prepare and improve your chances for successful application to the School of Pharmacy, at whatever college or university you choose to attend upon graduation from high school.
