UW-Madison adopted a smoke-free policy for all buildings in April 1991. In 1995, the policy was revised, and the UW Hospital and Clinics were also made entirely smoke-free. The School of Pharmacy has joined other health sciences units and the UWHC in implementing another revision to the policy. Beginning April 2, 2008, no smoking will be permitted anywhere on Clinical Sciences Center or Health Sciences Learning Center property within the ring road or on the grounds surrounding the Waisman Center and Rennebohm Hall. This latest revision extends the policy to the grounds of the hospital and clinics and to other academic, clinical, and research facilities and grounds on the western campus.
In an effort to provide a healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors, we would like to support all efforts to quit smoking by School of Pharmacy personnel (and others who work in Rennebohm Hall) who currently smoke. To that end, we will be holding a "Thinking of Quitting?" session at the School with experts from the UW Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (CTRI). They have considerable information and tips to help people succeed in quitting. More information about this upcoming session will follow. We would also like to bring the following valuable resources to everyone's attention:
University Health Services offers a variety of medication and counseling services to assist with smoking cessation.
Many health insurance programs provide access to smoking cessation programs. Check your current provider for your benefits.
Tobacco Quit Line (Operated by the Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention or CTRI)
