The UW School of Pharmacy has a long tradition of excellence in education, scientific research and innovation. The School was first in the country to offer a BS degree in Pharmacy (1893). We awarded the first PhD in pharmaceutical sciences in the US (1902), and soon after we established the first PhD program in pharmacy (1917). We also established the first graduate programs in pharmacy administration, the history of pharmacy and social studies in pharmacy.
Behind this success lies a rich history and tradition of philanthropy from our loyal alumni and friends. Over the years the generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations has helped build the infrastructure and the legacy of excellence that has led to the exciting momentum that the School enjoys today.
More than at any time in its 123-year history, the UW School of Pharmacy is uniquely positioned to expand its role as a national leader in a new era of professional and graduate education, in scientific research, and in improving health and life. Philanthropy will play a critical role in fulfilling this destiny.
Looking ahead, the UW School of Pharmacy will continue to build its reputation as a school where world-class scientists and graduate students impact the health and well-being of people around the world through extraordinary discoveries and advances in pharmaceutical, social, and clinical research. We will be known as a school where outstanding educators provide the margin of excellence needed to prepare the pharmacy workforce of the future, ensuring the highest level of pharmaceutical care for all patients. And we will be a school that continues to be known for its environment of civility, diversity, collaboration, and mutual respect.
The profession and the science of pharmacy are advancing at an incredibly rapid rate. To lay the groundwork for an extraordinary future, the School must strategically invest in recruiting and retaining world-class faculty; we must ensure that we can attract and support the very best professional (PharmD) and graduate students; and we must continue to maintain and enhance our state-of-the-art physical facilities and critical infrastructure.
The School's current fundraising priorities will help build on its tradition of excellence, and maintain and enhance its position of preeminence among pharmacy schools in the nation.
