Creating Posters

____________________________________________________________

Directions

  1. Download the template and open in the graphic program.
  2. If necessary, you can modify the template by increasing or decreasing the size, changing colors, etc. You will need to be familiar with Fireworks or Photoshop to do this or utilize the program's help features.
  3. Using the text tool, enter the title of your poster. Note: Depending on how many characters are in the title, you may have to modify the red rectangular box behind the title to hide the white line.
  4. To add images, simply open the graphic file in the program. Create a new layer and copy and paste the graphic onto the new layer. (See Powerpoint and Excel graphic information below.)
  5. By using the selection tool, you can select an item and move it to the desired location.
  6. To add text, add a new layer to the file, and then use the text tool.
  7. After your file is completed, you will need to save it in a format that is suitable for the printing places listed below. We recommend saving it as a .jpg file for best quality.

Exporting Graphics from Powerpoint

  1. Under file, page setup, enter values for the width and height. In the past, 5x3 has worked well for us.
  2. Under file, save as, select GIF as file type. (We have found that GIF works better than JPG.)

How to Add an Excel Graphic

  1. Do a print screen of the Excel graphic and paste it into the graphic program.
