Frequently Asked Questions / Troubleshooting Tips

Laptop

Q: I plugged in the VGA cable, but the image still isn't going to the projector.

A: Many laptops allow the user to toggle between display settings. This allows the image to be viewed on the screen and/or the projector. Look closely at the function keys to find the laptop's toggle switch. For example, Windows 7 uses the Windows logo key+p (for projector).

Q: My Mac Laptop will not display the image on the projector.

A: You may need to adjust your computer's screen resolution and refresh rate. Go to 'System Preferences' and click on 'Displays'. Change the 'Resolutions:' setting to 1024 x 768 and change the 'Refresh Rate:' setting to 60 Hz.

Q: The screen does not fill up the whole space on the TV/Projector.

A: The lecture hall projectors and Conference Room TV's use slightly different perspective ratio's. The Lecture Hall's use a 4:3 ratio and the Conference Room TV's use a 16:9 ratio. In PowerPoint, find the Page Setup and select the appropriate Slide Size.

Q: My Mac laptop displays a screen, but not the same screen as shown on my laptop.

A: Make sure your display is 'mirroring' the laptop screen. Go to 'System Preferences' and click on 'Displays'.  Next, click on 'Arrangement' and make sure the check box next to 'Mirror Displays' is marked.

Sound

Q: I'm trying to show a video clip to the class, but there is NO sound.

A: The sound system is connected to the last piece of equipment that you touched on the display panel. For example, if the last thing you did was to send the document camera to the left projector, then the sound system is connected to the document camera. Just press the dedicated computer or laptop and then send to center projector again. Then the sound system should be connected to that item. (Also, make sure the sound on the laptop or dedicated computer is turned on via the sound bar on the bottom right side of the screen.)

Microphone

Tip

Since the podium microphone automatically turns on when the system starts up, it is a good idea to mute the microphones from the control panel while setting up for the presentation and while answering private questions at the podium.
