Adam Alexander Nickel, a 3rd year pharmacy student at the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 2nd, 2008, shortly after finishing the Little Rock Marathon, in Little Rock, Arkansas. An avid runner, Adam was training to run in the San Diego Marathon to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of his grandmother.
To honor Adam's memory, classmate Sarah Balzar will
be running in the Chicago Marathon in October in conjunction with the WI
Team in Training Program, and donations to the cause that Adam was so
committed to are still possible by supporting Sarah. In addition, the
School of Pharmacy has established the Adam Nickel Memorial Scholarship,
which will provide support for a PharmD student each year in Adam's
