Karen joined the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in August 2002 as a Coordinator of the Pharmacotherapy Lab for the entry-level Pharm.D. program. She graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 1988.
Her practice experience has been inpatient and managed care pharmacy, with interests in asthma, cardiology, and critical care medicine. She currently works part-time as a critical care pharmacist at UWHC working in the trauma, cardiothoracic, and cardiac intensive care units. Her professional memberships include American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Karen's professional interests focus on expanding the pharmacist's role in patient education through outpatient cardiac rehabilitation and post hospital discharge patient call back programs. In her spare time, she volunteers her services at the Dean/St. Marys Neighborhood Asthma Clinic, Camp WIKIDAS (WIsconsin KIDs with ASthma), and the Badger Breathers support group.
